What is GOTS Certified, Ring-Spun & Combed mean?
In my little product videos I have started making on my social media I have mentioned these terms above. I wanted to write a quick reference guide here to what these mean if you haven't seen or hear them before.
Please feel free to ad what these mean to you in the comments below and I will leave links so you can read more on these too.
GOTS Certified (Global Organic Textile Standard)
GOTS is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres.
GOTS looks at the entire production chain process from the very start, at the cotton farm, to the factory, to the final product before printing, including even the journey from the factory to the final destination of the supplier.
It also certifies that the cotton used is GMO-free and is grown without the use of chemicals.
Ring-Spun & Combed
Ring-Spun Cotton is made by twisting and thinning the cotton strands to make them into incredibly fine, soft ropes of cotton fibres.
Combed cotton goes through some extra processes after this. The cotton is “combed” bringing all the strands parallel to each other and this removes all the shorter fibres, leaving the longer fibres that give a nice soft feel. As the the fibres are longer they are stronger too leading to a longer lasting product.
All our clothing is made from this method and is an important commitment to me that the clothes you buy last and last and last, aiding in slow fashion and are also super comfortable to wear, so you want to wear it all day, every day!
