Why do we say we are Vegan?
A customer asked a good question a few weeks ago...what is Vegan about a hoodie?
We all know the old saying of your customer is always right and she is right ,what is it about clothing that make them Vegan!
I think the first thing to ask is does any of their manufacturing process or materials used, conduct or commission on animals.
The companies we work with to bring CottonCrab to life are PETA Certified.
They do not conduct or commission any animal tests on any processes or products. All products are made from 100% vegan materials down to the thread use to embroid our lovely crabs.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 6.5 million members and supporters.
PETA opposes speciesism a human-supremacist worldview, and focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.
PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.

The second thing to ask is are the dyes they use to colour the clothes toxic?
Look for OEKO-TEX® certification which ensures no chemical substances that are or could be harmful to health and the environment are used throughout production, this includes the land where animals live or graze.
The companies I work with are OEKO-TEX® certified and also have a Global Recycled Standard label which certifies that the materials used are recycled but GRS also guarantees compliance with social and environmental criteria such as the treatment of waste water, the absence of certain toxic additives and also respect for working conditions in partner factories too.
